Construction is set to begin this week, improving the structure and layout of the base of the Steamboat Ski Resort. ‘Tentatively, work that could happen this summer includes building the first segment of the snow-melted promenade, including pavers, from Torian Plum Plaza to the Sheraton Steamboat Resort property line…The promenade would continue as a durable concrete path all the way to One Steamboat Place. In addition, the first segment of Burgess Creek with a small waterfall and a pond would be built in the summer and fall.’

I think that this a very efficient solution. The concrete-surfaced path will be durable, and it’s OK if you plow it and salt it. And this is only the currently budgeted aspect of the project. To finish off the project in the future there will be fire pits, two bridges over the creek and public art, further tying together the base of the mountain.

With these new improvements to the base, in addition to the opening of the Truffle Pig and the completion of One Steamboat Place and Edgemont, the Steamboat Ski Resort has seen a complete remodeling of the base area. Still designed with Steamboat’s heritage and western influences in mind, the improvements will add to the beauty of the resort while hopefully improving everyone’s experience.

One Steamboat Place, Trailhead Lodge and Edgemont have seen success in their sales in 2009, but are continuing to push forward looking to better their sales in 2010. ‘According to research compiled by Bruce Carta, of Land Title Guarantee Co., from Routt County Assessor’s records, Edgemont developer Atira Group has realized $30.28 million on sales of 13 condominiums, and Trailhead Lodge, developed by Resort Ventures West, has sold 32 condominiums for a combined value of $27.43 million. One Steamboat Place, which began closing sales late in 2009, has reached $71 million, including 11 whole-ownership condominiums accounting for $40.45 million and 73 Residence Club memberships, which add $30.65 million.’

The article in the Steamboat Pilot notes that one of the most encouraging signs is seeing resort lenders come back into the market. The sales director at Edgemont stated that he was ‘impressed and encouraged by the fact that four of Edgemont’s 13 buyers were able to arrange conventional financing for the condominium purchases.’ With financing becoming easier for people interested in one of these luxury developments this should, among other factors, help initiate a stronger interest in these communities. One Steamboat Place was recently mentioned in the Spring 2010 issue of Aspen Magazine. Primarily dedicated to discussing life in Aspen, the magazine praises One Steamboat Place for bringing a new level of luxury lodging to Steamboat Springs. And while praised for their change in the base area of Steamboat Ski area David Burden, CEO of Timber Resorts, stated, ‘we came to Steamboat to be a part of this community. We didn’t want to change it.’ And months after the opening of OSP it appears as though they have been incredibly successful in their goal. A beautifully written article written in Ski Magazine describes the changes to the base area in Steamboat and the impact One Steamboat Place’s construction has on Steamboats overall personality. Traditionally known for embracing our ‘rustic charm and genuine mountain ranching community’ the author was initially hesitant to change her perception of Steamboat.

Deborah Williams describes how a week before her visit ‘Resort Manager Ellie McAtee—more den mother than concierge—called to ask what pre-arrival logistics we’d like her to arrange. She offered to stock the refrigerator with groceries, make dinner reservations, book ski lessons or coordinate an airport transfer. She could even arrange for a private chef to prepare Christmas dinner in our condo.’

Once she arrived she was impressed with the ‘plush couches and distressed leather chairs overflow with pillows; a mix of eclectic furniture, artwork and antiques imbue each room with ambience that is unmistakably Steamboat.’

Concluding the author states that staying at One Steamboat Place she no longer feels like she is betraying Steamboat’s legacy. ‘Rather I am embracing its evolution.’ A well phrased conclusion describing the positive changes that are occurring in Steamboat.

A recent article in At Home in Steamboat Springs, One Steamboat Place, Edgemont and Wildhorse are commended for their successful efforts at increasing the luxury lodging available at the base of Mt. Werner. While similar in the quality of lodging and amenities offered, these three developments each have distinct qualities that distinguish one from another.

One Steamboat Place has designed the interior of the community to flow with a deep red motif. This theme begins ‘at the front door and continues through the kitchen to a dining room banquette and on into one of several individual bathrooms.” While Edgemont, on the other hand gives each individual owner the opportunity to to furnish and design the interior of their vacation home. Wildhorse Meadows allows owner to ‘choose from four different color palettes and fabric selections to suit [your] tastes.’

Despite the differences in interior design, the article’s author, Tom Ross, describes the change in style of developments, where instead of the ‘lodge look and cowboys-and-Indians motif’ these luxury communities exude an ‘understated Western look of reclaimed barn timbers married with sleek light fixtures and industrial steel [which] allows art enthusiasts to show off divergent art collections.’

Concluding the article, Tom Ross summarizes that  ‘taken as a group, Steamboat’s trio of new signature properties have put Steamboat well on the way to realizing its goal of reclaiming it stature as one of the most contemporary ski villages anywhere.’

In celebration of the opening of One Steamboat Place, Timbers Resorts is throwing a Grand Opening Party on Saturday, February 6th at 6pm. One Steamboat Place officially opened for the first group of guests on Saturday.  This beautiful facility is now open for owners and guests looking to capitalize on the beautiful weather in Steamboat. ‘The first guests — as many as 14 or 15 couples — were scheduled to begin checking into residence club condos Saturday.’ In addition to the successful condo sales thus far, 34 of 50 Summit Club memberships have been acquired.  The Summit Club ‘memberships entitle members who don’t own real estate at One Steamboat Place to use amenities including the spa and ski lockers.’
