In a recent article describing the updates in ski towns around the US, the New York Times mentions Wildhorse Meadows. While most ski towns are attempting to cut prices on many things to bring in the crowds, some places are noted for their significant improvements on the mountain. Wildhorse specifically, is noted for bringing a new gondola and helping change the feeling of the base area. For more information check the article out below.

Today marks the official beginning of the winter. It was a great day. While a bit overcast early in the morning the clouds quickly cleared and the skies were blue all afternoon. It was great to be back on Mt. Werner again to stretch out the legs. With the holiday arriving tomorrow, I’m hoping to get out a few times over the weekend with the family and rumor has it that the gondola opens tomorrow. Ive put together a few pictures of the ski area on opening day. Enjoy and be sure to check back for more over the weekend

Coming in with great timing, winter looks like it has arrived in Steamboat. Staring outside now, it appears as though the snow is trying to make up for its absence over the past few weeks…all in one day. The flakes are big and they are coming down fast. A winter weather advisory is in affect from now until Saturday night. Forecasts are calling for up to 8 inches in town and over a foot of fluffy powder by Saturday morning at higher elevations. But its not over Saturday. “We’ve got a stronger and colder storm moving in behind it,” says Meteorologist Megan Schwitzer. With Howelsen Hill Ski area scheduled to open December 5th and Mt. Werner on November 26th, its only good news for Steamboat. Picture below is just a shot of downtown, everywhere else is difficult to see in the white-out.
